Northwest Portland includes the Pearl District, most of Old Town, the Northwest District, and various residential and industrial neighborhoods. A range of streets is named alphabetically from Ankeny through York with Burnside Street dividing Northwest from Southwest.

The Pearl District is a former warehouse and industrial section just north of Downtown. Many of the original warehouses have been converted into lofts, and new multi-story condominiums and apartments have been built creating a unique urban environment. Here you will find a mix of restaurants, brew pubs and shops.

Between the Pearl District and the Willamette River is Old Town with 19th-century stone and brick buildings.  Portland’s Chinatown is part of Old Town and is home to the Lan Su Chinese Garden covering an entire city block.

Northwest of Downtown is the NW 21st and NW 23rd boutique shopping area part of the Northwest District.  The neighborhood has a mix of single family residential houses, condominiums and apartment buildings centered around Wallace Park.   Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center anchors the neighborhood with the Portland streetcar connecting the Pearl District to Downtown and PSU.

West of the developed areas is the northern portion of Portland’s West Hills, including the majority of Forest Park, one of the largest urban forests in the United States. You also have the neighborhoods of Willamette Heights, Hillside, Sylvan, Skyline and Forest Heights.
